Planning for 2006 elections & party conventions
1. Candidate questionaire: questions created around resolutions forged out of Kucinich campaign to be presented to candidates for answers
2. PAA and Democracy for Houston sponsoring precinct training on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Harris County Democratic Party headquarters, 1445 W. Loop W.
3. Sunday, Feb. 25 Democratic Candidate rally, Drexler’s 2800 Pierce
4. Green Party Voting Access – Don Cook General monthly meeting (third Monday of each month), Monday, Feb. 20, at Central Market meeting room; petition drive begins March 8, need 47,000 shooting for 70,000 (almost a 1000 day)
5. Houston Social Forum update: Potluck Dinner & Movie Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Artery; HSF scheduled for April 29-30 at Texas Southern University; need all progressives, artists and those who envision a world better than what we have; call for speakers, panelists, workshop leaders;
6. Paul Loeb lecture and discussion; author of The Impossible will take a little while” Soul of a Citizen; talks are inspiring, overcoming cynicism; propose take Paul Loeb to dinner; $250 for venue; 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Resurrection Church
7. Feb. 20th Cindy Sheehan (with Ann Wright and possibly Diane Wilson) in Houston at St. Martin’s Church, 717 Sage (close to Bush homestead) 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20; Sheehan also speaking 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at Montgomery College in The Woodlands, 3200 College Park Dr.
8. Building pressure to impeach Bush/Cheney
Flyers at parades & other events (Bill recommends focusing on these kind of events because not preaching to choir like at protests and demonstrations)
Sign making for freeway blogging, bumper stickers. Possible venues: Chavez Parade, Houston International Festival, Gay/Pride Parade (altho preaching to choir), Art Car parade, Rodeo Parade (perhaps too large a nut to crack), March 25 State Delegate convention and state convention in Ft. Worth
9. Continuing to work on Iraq withdrawal and counter recruiting; ACLU suing Conroe school that is refusing to let kid’s photo be in yearbook if kid “opts out”
10. Discussion about whether we want to organize a 3rd anniversary event
