Report on the Feb tea party and Paul Loeb lecture
Good time was had by all. One woman who was a counter protester.
Reports on the precinct conventions: poor voter and precinct convention turn out thru-out the city; those who attended convention and presented resolutions got many resolutions passed
Janette Sexton: Education and health care two primary issues; John Sharp holding hearings throughout Texas to figure out how to pay for education in state (Rick Perry appointed him to position) Can provide input online; 250 in attendance at TSU hearing;
Sharp announced that state income tax was not subject to discussion and would appear as debate topic over his dead body; www.sexton4district44.com Elliot Shapely (sp?) from El Paso has good packet on state personal income tax; proposes a broadbase income tax; with a graduated income tax and broadbased business tax could do away with sales and property taxes
Don Cook: Green Party ballot access petitions; Green Party not on ballot in Texas and petition drive begins March 15. Need folk to assist with petition drive. Turn in completed sheets every two weeks to expedite the verification and count of remaining signatures needed. Drive lasts through May 30.
Bill Crosier: Discussion about preparation for Democratic Senate District conventions and possible training. Ivan to check out possible venues for training. Bill handed out “Strategy Summary.” Requested input regarding strategy summary be emailed to him. He’l compile and post to PAA website. Urged all those interested to contact Senate District chair and declare interest in getting on committee especially resolutions and nominations
Bindu Nair: discussion on medical marijuana
Discussion about March 18th 3rd Anniversary of Iraq War/Occupation: starts at 11 with demo, leafletting and rally starting around 1 p.m.
Saturday, March 11: Another sign-making party at Bill & Cheryl both for the March 18th event and any freeway blogging
