• Minutes reviewed and approved from last meeting with Pepper Tree correction
• Proposed agenda and approved:
o Support Don Cook’s city council candidacy; discussion about nonprofits ability to contribute money; encourage individuals to support
o Notify folk about war resisters letter writing campaign 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at Pepper Tree, 3821 Richmond, east of Weslayan, 77027;
o Saturday, March 21 HPJC Environmental Injustice in Texas Conference at UH Honors College, 212 MD Anderson Library; encourage friends/family/loved ones to register and attend;
o Outreach to folk at Sedition Books about indy media conference, 2nd Saturday in April
o Health Care for All: collecting universal single payer post cards to present to lege; next meeting 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2990 Richmond Ave. (NOTE: Must arrive on time because building doors are locked); Join Win/Win yahoo group that supports universal single payer health care
o Gene Green global warming press conference: Gene did not show; group informed he was in DC when in fact in Houston at other office; but Andy Wilson from Public Citizen spoke and a woman from Public Citizen addressed issue in Spanish; good media representation at press conference but no coverage subsequently on local tv news or in print
o Artist and Code Pink Houston Cofounder Barb Jones Memorial 6 p.m. Monday, March 16, Earthman Funeral Home on 6700 Ferris, Bellaire 77401
o Sunday, April 19 Shut Down Hutto in Taylor, Texas UH Students for a Democratic Society; spread the word; good turn out for Hutto closure last Saturday, March 7, in Taylor; Bart will post April 19 demonstration to PAA calendar
o Next KPFT Outreach Committee 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at station; bylaws call for two town hall meetings to hear wants, needs, concerns of the community; discussion about role of media to ensure our democracy thru an informed public/community and question about how KPFT fulfills that responsibility
o Spread word about Palestinian Film Festival opening 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, El Dorado Ballroom, 2310 Elgin, Houston 77004; and 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, Saturday, April 18, Friday, April 24 & Saturday, April 25 at Rice Media Center, University Blvd. at Stockton, Houston 77005.
