Altar for Emma Tenayuca
Oct. 19 through Nov. 6
4 - 8pm, Wed - Fri; 2 - 8pm, Sat & Sun
Houston Institute for Culture will exhibit an altar for Emma Tenayuca
to educate about the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead, and to
inform viewers about modern issues on the US-Mexico border. A second
altar will raise awareness of increasing violence against women in
the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The event is free.

2000th Soldier Memorial Houston (tentative - depends on the casualty
count as of Thursday, October 27th - please check website for details)
Start: Oct 29 2005 - 6:30pm
End: Nov 5 2005 - 6:30pm
You are invited to participate in a week-long memorial to the 2000th
US military casualty of the Iraq war, in the Heights in Houston. It
will begin the Saturday after the announced 2000th US casualty of the
Iraq war, with a ceremony each evening sponsored by a different
group, and ending the following Saturday (one week later) with a
larger ceremony.
I invite all of you to participate each evening -- especially on the
evening when the PAA and the Dept. of Peace group are planning a
ceremony, and on the final Saturday at the end of the week.
The US casualty count as of today (according to http://
icasualties.org/ ) is 1996. This means that it looks like our
Houston ceremonies will probably begin next Saturday, Oct. 29, and
end Nov. 5.
The memorial will be on the Heights Boulevard esplanade in Houston,
between 10th and 11th Streets, by the World War II memorial (just
south of 11th).
