PROTEST Sen. Cornyn's support of torture

Nov 10 2005 - 12:00pm
Nov 10 2005 - 1:00pm

Event Description:

PRESS RELEASE:     Please join our protest!  Numbers count!

The McCain amendment to ban "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" of any detainee of the U.S. passed the senate 90-9.  Texas senator John Cornyn was one of only nine senators to vote against the McCain amendment.  Bush and Cheney want an exception so that the CIA can continue to torture.

We need to let Sen. Cornyn and other members of Congress know that they will be rightfully painted as being for torture in their future reelection campaigns if they vote with Bush-Cheney to give the CIA a pass on this.  Cheney is working hard to defeat the amendment and Bush says he will veto the $445 defense appropriations bill if the McCain amendment stays intact.

A large protest will send a message to Congress.  America does not stand for torture.
Join Amnesty International and others in this protest.

PS: Truth, Torture and the American Way by Jennifer Harbury documents decades of torture and murder by the CIA in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatamala and other countries.
