Stunning New Poll: Americans Favor Bush's Impeachment If He Lied about Iraq

Submitted by PAAMember on October 12, 2005 - 7:00pm. ::

Copied below is a portion of an
email from After Downing Street indicating that the major polling firms are
still not polling about impeachment (except the one done by Zogby) so ADS
has commissioned a poll itself and plans to do more.

They found that a majority favor
impeachment if Bush lied about Iraq (see below). And of course other polls
indicate that most people believe HE DID LIE about Iraq, so IF THEY
WOULD JUST DO THE POLLING, it appears certain that they would find a growing
majority favoring impeachment.

We need to
support this effort every way we can - by making another contribution
to After Downing Street, and by writing to the polling companies. I have
made another small contribution and the letter I sent is copied below. I
think this is the best way to get our spineless "representatives" in congress to
get their courage up to start moving on this.

So far Cynthia
McKinney is the only Democrat who has actually mentioned the "i"
word on the house floor. They shouted her down and refused to put the
word in the record, but she promises to keep saying it until they do.
So if you have a few more dollars extra, it wouldn't hurt to send her something
too - she will need it next election because they will really be after her -
again.

Dear Pollsters:

Based on the Downing Street Memos and numerous other sources, it is
now apparent that the Bush administration misled this nation into war
against Iraq on the basis of information that turned out to be
false, without approval of the United Nations, and in violation
of the Nuremberg Principles and international law.

In consideration of the above (not to mention approval of torture,
rendition, and other war-related crimes), why are not multiple polls
being conducted asking if Bush should be impeached? There were many polls
asking about impeaching Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky matter was made
public, and surely an affair with an intern is of negligible significance
compared to leading the nation into war on false pretenses.

I feel confident such polls would reveal that a big majority of Americans
would favor impeachment, which in turn might at least provide cover
for our spineless "representatives" in congress (who are faithful readers
of polls) to begin to consider the possibility. Otherwise this
administration (which has no regard for American traditions or decency) will
continue to lead us into even more illegal, immoral, and ultimately disastrous
folly.

Stunning New Poll:
Americans Favor Bush's Impeachment If He Lied about Iraq

By a margin of 50% to 44%, Americans want Congress
to consider impeaching President Bush if (like there's any doubt!) he lied about
the war in Iraq, according to a new poll commissioned by AfterDowningStreet.org and conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs, the highly-regarded non-partisan
polling company.

The poll above was paid for by your donations.  On
September 30, we set a goal of raising $10,000 to pay for this and additional
polls, and thus far you've raised $9,034.  Nice work!!!  Now, let's
see if we can dig deep and find that last $966.

More Organizing Badly Needed

As public pressure builds for impeachment, we need resources in order to
organize an effective movement.  We don't waste a dime, and we don't back
down.  Can you help out?
